Rider's Guide
WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Galiano's electric community bus provides a regular transit service on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings according to the attached schedule. The bus meets the BC ferry arrivals noted on the schedule.
The fare to ride the bus is $5.
The bus will also operate on Sunday afternoons at the times shown on the schedule if requested in advance by email to galianobus@gmail.com by Saturday evening.
OPTIONAL STOPS
As indicated on the map, the regular South End Route is a circular loop. Adjacent to the loop are optional stops at Sticks Allison, the Golf Course (Ellis Rd), the Mt. Galiano trailhead, and the Library. Riders on board the bus can ask the driver to be dropped off at these stops, or other locations along the route where it is safe to stop. If you would like to be picked up at any of these optional stops, please email your request to galianobus@gmail.com well in advance.
Please also note that all the stops on the North End Route on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are optional, and will be made only if requested by an on-board rider, or if there is a request for a pickup at these stops sent to galianobus@gmail.com well in advance.
WEEKDAY SCHEDULE
In addition to the weekend transit service shown on the attached schedule, the community bus operates a weekday morning run to transport students down island to the school water taxi at Sturdies Bay on school day mornings (usually Mon-Thurs). Members of the public are also welcome to board this bus by paying the $5 fare.
The morning bus leaves the Cook Road intersection with Porlier Pass Road (North Galiano Fire Hall) at 6:48 am, and makes scheduled stops at the Cottage Way, McClure Road, and Montague-Clanton intersections, and at Daystar Market on Georgeson Bay Road, before arriving at Sturdies Bay at 7:20 am. The bus will pick-up anywhere along Porlier Pass Road, Montague Road, Georgeson Bay Road, or Sturdies Bay Road where it is safe to stop.
If you're planning to catch the 8:30 am ferry to Vancouver, this morning bus run will get you to Sturdies Bay with plenty of time to get a coffee before the ferry arrives.
The bus also meets the return school water taxi at Sturdies Bay at 5:30 pm on school days, and transports students back up island. Members of the public are welcome to board this bus for the usual $5 fare.
SPECIAL RUNS
Monday "Soup and Bread"
Residents of north Galiano who would like a ride south to the weekly Soup and Bread lunch on Mondays at the South Galiano Community Hall are asked to email galianobus@gmail.com by 9 pm on Sunday. Upon request we'll run the optional North End Route, leaving the North Galiano Community Hall at 11:45 am and picking up along Porlier Pass Road on the way south, arriving at the South Hall by 12:30 pm. Leave from the South Hall at about 1:30 pm for the return trip to the north end.
